About

The purpose of this blog is to discuss topics related to all areas of discrete event simulation, robotic simulation, and PLC emulation.  Please feel free to direct the conversation anywhere within these topics.  Thanks for taking the time…….

    Hi. I am an Extend user here at Eli Lilly and Company.

    I am thinking of posting entries on many of the software products on the market to start a conversation about the current and future state of the products. Do you use products other than Extend? I sense a poll coming soon………

    Joe,
    The blog is a great idea! I look forward to participating.

    Another area of discrete event simulation seemingly not covered here is computer/telecommunications network simulation. This are comes with different software and different challenges. Is it of interest to this blog? There have been quite a few network simulation papers in the Winter Simulation Conference over the years at least.

    Sam…what software do you use for network simulations? I am interested in all aspects of discrete event simulation and I am sure others would be interested to hear more. This is exactly the type of dialog I hope to have here

    Great Idea. Will there be a FORUM to discuss code and with others?

    Right now all the site will have is a blog. I know that MSUG (michigan simulation users group) is coming out with a site soon that will have some of that functionality. Look for an announcement on the blog

    Can’t wait any longer to inform this blog to all simulation users in Indonesia.

    Joe;
    Thank you so much starting this blog. I have been using PICS for 5 years. I do PLC emulation for airport baggae Handling. Been in the airport area for 22 years now. time has flown by.

    ns-2 is the main culprit for network simulation, but not by virtue of being particularly good. More because everybody else uses it. See http://www.isi.edu/nsnam/ns/. In my TCP research I’ve focussed on ns-2 in the past. There is a new effort to replace this with ns-3, but it’s in very early stages. There have been a fair amount of papers at WSC that have used ns-2 for the network simulation.

    There are lots of other network simulators around for the different sorts of network simulation (e.g., wireless, or tailored for operations planning).

    I think OPNET is the most popular commercial tool about, but have little first-hand experience at it.
