I’ve been in the simulation industry since 1984. In the past I have used Witness, GPSS, QUEST, and AutoMod for traditional discrete event simulation. Currently, I am focused on PLC emulation using V-Sim to validate ladder logic prior to commissioning control systems. I have been a simulation user, sold simulation software, managed software development teams, and launched two separate software products (QUEST and V-Sim). I have been personally involved in over 400 simulation projects that include the automotive, warehousing, consumer goods, military, aerospace, and transportation industries. I have a Bachelors in Manufacturing Systems Engineering and an MBA in Marketing.
Most of you may know me from the Winter Simulation Conference. I was on the committee this year as the Business Chair and I am the General Chair for 2010 when the conference will be in Baltimore.

thanks for stopping by…. I have done a lot of warehousing and logistics modeling. I am sure it will come up often in the conversations.

Great site. Thanks for the start of a Sim Blog. I have played with V-Sim some. I mainly do Emulation with PLC in the baggae world for airports. We currently use PIC’S at the moment. When ask what i do, Some people think i do Airplane Simulatior. I have been using PICS for 5 years now.

Looks great Joe!!!!
Would you have any inerest in being involved with the SME Simulation Technical Group, or maybe giving a webinar?

First let me say, great to see a blog like this. I work for a regional economic development organization that is helping develop the M&S industry in the Hampton Roads region of Southeastern Virginia.
One of our great challenges is that outside of certain industries, our main one here is the military, M&S is relatively unknown and unused. I’m not talking spreadsheets and what ifs - but real sims with strong visualizations.
What I would like to see in future posts is discussion of the many uses of M&S - written for the M&S user and not the developer. Maybe that needs to be a different blog but that’s something sorely lacking for this industry to take off the way it could. I’d like something to direct people to when they ask - “what’s M&S.”
I’ve developed an M&S user group in google for things M&S in our region. Anyone interested can e-mail me for access - it’s not a public forum.

Thanks for the feedback. I have done a number of very strong visual models in the past. I’ll find some time to discuss them generically in future posts.
